VF Futurewear: Responsible Living
The Transformable Packaging project by Professor Becky Earley completed in March 2012 proposed solutions for how to reduce waste through sustainable packaging systems that can be altered and transformed over time. The outcomes are a series of prototypes for box-less and box plus concepts. The project was exhibited at an internal exhibition organised by the commissioning large U.S. apparel company. The design of a Bird-Box for reuse of shoes boxes as a habitat for native birds with biodegradable and edible materials was included in the final collection. The project included stages of research, design, product development and production management.
As part of the research development, two student workshops with participants from the Industrial Design and Textile Futures courses at Central Saint Martins and from the MA Graphic Design and MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art & Design tested the concepts. The outcomes from the workshops have been documented in a film and on a blog with the final prototypes.
